The Fall of LOST

It’s been several weeks now since the fall finale of Lost (3.06- “I Do”), and I’ve spent my time wisely processing the plethora of perils presented (alliteration is such fun). Now, by perils, I do not necessarily mean the precarious situations our favorite (and not-so-favorite) islanders are in.

The Best Week(s) of T.V. Ever, Part Three: Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica

This is the third of my three-part series. This one’s a little different, and includes spoilers for everything that has aired so far.

I love this show so frakking much! Surprising me more than anyone, it has managed to climb to the number one spot in my mind. I still consider myself fairly new to my geek cred, and can’t say I ever considered the Sci Fi channel a place to find awesome programming. That’s right—I was one of those elitist snobs who considered this genre “hoaky” or “too unrealistic.” Thanks to a slew of friends, the influence of Joss Whedon, and now Ronald Moore, science fiction dominates my TiVo. Battlestar Galactica (amongst other programs, such as Farscape and the new Doctor Who series) has proven over and over again that this genre is nothing approaching hoaky. And the first arc of this season has surprised me in too many ways to recount. The biggest, though, is that I was in tears over the death of Ellen Tigh, easily my most hated character of Season’s 1 and 2. What the frak?!?

The Best Week(s) of T.V. Ever, Part Two: Lost

This is my second in a three-part series of evaluating the third seasons of three of the best shows on TV. My first piece dealt with Veronica Mars, and I’ll be covering Battlestar Galactica in a subsequent article. Now, though, I turn my attention to Lost.

The Best Week(s) of T.V. Ever, Part One: Veronica Mars

Several months ago, I wrote an article for this webzine about the upcoming fall season of television, in particular the tertiary seasons of my favorite three shows: Veronica Mars, Lost, and Battlestar Galactica. It’s now two weeks in, and so far? I have to say they have lived up to my expectations. Let’s take this show by show, shall we? Obviously, spoilers live here for the first two weeks of each show. Up first is Veronica Mars, and I’ll be covering Lost and Battlestar Galactica in subsequent articles.

Supernatural Season 1 review

At Comic-Con 2005, I sat down at a panel to see the premiere of a new show on the WB. Truth be told, I was just waiting for the Veronica Mars panel to start, but I figured that a show about solving ghost stories might be fun, too. As I watched, I found myself mostly disappointed. While the mystery was interesting, and one of the lead characters was both gorgeous and sarcastic, it was my opinion that the mystery-of-the-week formula wasn’t going to work for very long. By the end of the pilot, however, I had changed my tune a bit -- the show managed to connect an event from the beginning of the episode to a later event, and thus a story arc was born. I decided to give Supernatural a shot after all, so long as Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) continued to be gorgeous and sarcastic and the arc kept coming back.

Plot Pods: A New Approach to Fall TV

October is one of the better months of the year: leaves change, the weather cools, and costumes and candy are plentiful. This year, I have another reason to be excited about October – three returning television shows. During the first week of October, Veronica Mars, Lost, and Battlestar Galactica all return for what promises to be a terrific season of television.
